More than 40 volunteers celebrated Earth Day by rolling up their sleeves to mālama ʻāina on the Garden Isle

Trust for Public Land and AES Hawai'i host community work day at Alakoko fishpond

LĪHUʻE - April 23, 2022 - Today, AES joined a community workday with Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC), Trust for Public Land and Mālama Hulē‘ia at Alakoko Fishpond, a 102-acre site of cultural and environmental significance located in Līhu‘e, Kaua‘i. Over 40 volunteers gathered in celebration of Earth Day to spend a day clearing the mangrove along the connected river and restoring the fishpond and its surrounding native wetland and estuary.

“The AES Hawai‘i ‘ohana was proud to lend a hand at Alakoko and support the efforts to ensure this special place endures for the benefit of generations to come,” said Kirstin Punu, Senior Manager, Project Development, AES Hawai'i.
